古筝演奏家:韩梅

  CCTV .com消息:韩梅以演奏与研究中国音乐为生活方式,她是难得的能够演奏传统、现代、即兴以及自由爵士的古筝艺术家,在力求完美诠释中国传统音乐的同时,她不断探索开创中西方文化相结合的新路,致力于把古筝推向国际舞台。

  韩梅自幼学习古筝,师从齐鲁派大师高自成。1975年考入沈阳前进歌剧团,开始了职业演奏生涯。1977年,韩梅赴山东与著名古筝演奏家张燕进修,同时向著名柳琴演奏家王惠然学习柳琴。1980年,她作为独奏演员调入北京战友歌舞团,期间,曾多次为中国唱片社、中央人民广播电台录制独奏、重奏等,并参加中国音乐节,全军汇演等大型音乐活动。在1975至1985的十年间,她还先后拜赵玉斋、曹正、阎利等名家为师,继续深造。在20多年的学习与实践中,她博采众长,加之坚实的传统音乐理论功底,使她的演奏交织渗透着文人气息与纯朴的民间风格。

  自1996年移居加拿大以来,韩梅把她的演奏扩展到国际舞台,除了每年在北美各地巡演以外,她还应邀在荷兰、捷克、新加坡、日本、马来西亚、南非、澳大利亚等国演出。她曾在加拿大和美国举行独奏音乐会,受到听众的欢迎。近年来,在保持和发扬传统音乐的同时,她与来自不同国家、不同民族的音乐家、作曲家合作,尝试用古筝演奏不同风格的独奏、重奏以及合奏作品,其中包括世界音乐(world music)、现代音乐(new music)、即兴(improvisation)以及自由爵士(free jazz)。她演奏的独奏作品包括日本作曲家三木稔的《华丽》(1967)、尺井中夫的《如鸟》(Like a Bird,1976)、加拿大作曲家Hope Lee的《薤路行》(1991) 、雨苇(Randy Raine-Reusch)为筝与合成背景录音而作的《竹?石?丝》(1996)。在2002年温哥华新音乐节上,韩梅首演了加拿大作曲家李佩明为她而作的《苍茫?流?冲击》。

  1998年,韩梅与雨苇组成二重奏,他们创作并演奏了多首双筝、筝与其他亚洲乐器的二重奏,这些作品超越了国家与文化的界限,采用了多种新的定弦、新的技巧,使传统、爵士与新音乐多种风格相结合。2001年,韩梅与雨苇录制发行了他们合作的第一张CD 《远方的风》,该CD荣获了加拿大国家音乐奖“JUNO奖”最佳“世界音乐”专辑和加拿大西海岸音乐奖两项提名,并登上加拿大全国大学广播网“世界音乐”排行榜榜首。

  韩梅还将即兴演奏成功地运用在古筝上,她曾多次在加拿大重要的爵士节上演奏自由爵士。除了雨苇,与她合作过的著名音乐家还包括德国单簧管演奏家FRANK GRATKOWSKI、加拿大钢琴家PAUL PLIMLEY、美国萨克斯管演奏家ELLERY ESKELIN、日本尺八演奏家AKIKASU NAKAMURA、法国打击乐演奏家LE QUAN NINH、奥地利小提琴家MIA ZABELKA等。

  韩梅的演奏被誉为“触及灵魂”,之所以如此,与她所受到的音乐教育是分不开的。多年来,在从事演奏的同时,她不断在音乐理论上深造,1991年,她进入中国艺术研究院音乐学硕士课程进修班学习,几年后以优秀的毕业论文《贵州侗族琵琶歌的研究》获得了

  中国音乐研究所民族音乐学硕士学位。1996年,她以全额奖学金被加拿大不列颠省大学音乐系录取,2000年取得了她第二个民族音乐学硕士学位。作为学者,韩梅为世界权威性音乐辞典《新格罗夫音乐与音乐家大辞典》撰写了“古筝”词条,并在国内外学术刊物上发表了多篇学术文章、著作翻译以及乐评等。她的论文《50年代中国音乐的西洋化与民族化》在1998年北美民族音乐学(西部分会)年会上获得最佳论文奖。她在北美十几所大学作过有关中国音乐的讲座。

  Mei Han - Bio

  Mei Han is a rare blend of performer and scholar, specializing in the Chinese zheng (zither), the parent instrument of the Asian long zither family. Recognized internationally as an authority and virtuoso on the zheng, Mei’s career spans Asia, Africa, Europe, and North America. Mei presents music deeply rooted in over two thousand years of Chinese culture, with traditional and groundbreaking contemporary works that demonstrate the zheng as a serious instrument of expression for the international concert stage.

  Mei began playing the zheng at ten years old, studying with a number of famous zheng masters in China, including Zhang Yan and Gao Zicheng. She worked as a featured soloist for over ten years with the prestigious Beijing Zhan You Ensemble, the premiere ensemble of its type in China. Her performances have been broadcast on national radio throughout China and are included in numerous records and CDs. Mei also often fulfilled the role as a musical ambassador with lectures and performances for the diplomatic societies and the international schools in China.

  Now residing in Vancouver, Canada, Mei is exploring new directions for solo zheng and unique combinations of zheng with other instruments in a contemporary experimental aesthetic, while retaining important aspects of ancient Chinese musical traditions. Mei has performed solo concerts of traditional and contemporary music in Holland, USA, South Africa and Canada, including works given to her by Minoru Miki, Yuji Takahashi, Hope Lee, David Eagle, Barry Truax, and Randy Raine-Reusch. At the 2002 Vancouver New Music Festival, Mei premiered a new work written for her by Lee Pui-Ming, commissioned by Vancouver New Music Society through the Canada Council for the Arts. In Beijing, in 2003, Mei will premiere the world’s first original zheng concerto with the China Philharmonic Orchestra, composed for Mei by Dr. John Sharpley.

  Mei collaborated with composer and multi-instrumentalist Randy Raine-Reusch to compose and record the first works for zheng duet in 2001. Their resulting CD Distant Wind (ZA Discs) reached #1 on the Canadian College Radio Charts, and was nominated for a Juno Award (Best Global) and two West Coast Music Awards (Best World and Best Instrumental). Together they have toured to Singapore (WOMAD), Malaysia, South Africa, Czech Republic and Japan. In 2003, they will perform in Beijing, Osaka, Tokyo, Adelaide (WOMAD), and Singapore. They will also premiere a new work for zheng duo by Hope Lee, commissioned through the Canada Council for the Arts.

  Mei is a member of the Orchid Ensemble, which tours throughout North America performing both traditional Chinese music and contemporary scores by Canadian and Chinese composers. She also performs with the Crossing Border Ensemble and the Vancouver Intercultural Orchestra. Mei is also an accomplished improvisational artist who has performed at major international jazz festivals and concerts with Frank Gratkowski, Paul Plimley, Ellery Eskelin, Robin Fox, Anthony Pateras, Mia Zabelka, Le Quan Ninh, Akikasu Nakamura, Jason Robinson and Randy Raine-Reusch.

  Mei holds two Master’s degrees in ethnomusicology, from the Musical Research Institute of the Chinese Arts Academy in Beijing (1995), considered internationally the most prestigious institute for Chinese music studies, and from the University of British Columbia (2000). Mei wrote the zheng entry for the New Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians, the premiere reference book in the world on music. She has also published more than ten articles, and translations on Chinese instrumental and Minority music in prominent Chinese and Taiwanese music journals. Mei has lectured on Chinese music at Western Ontario University, University of Waterloo, Western Michigan University and the Chime Conference of Asian Music in Leiden.
