SANTO DOMINGO, April 5 (Xinhua) -- Spanish and Dominican scientists on Sunday launched an undersea research in Dominican Republic to locate oil reserves and potential centers of earthquakes and seaquakes.

The so-called "Caribenorte" project, which will last 20 days, includes vessel Hesperides from the Spanish Army and vessel Orion from Dominican War Navy.

The Complutense University of Madrid made an investment of six million euros (7.6 million U.S. dollars) to fund the project, while the Dominican government gave 130,000 dollars.

Technicians from the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo and staff from the Dominican Navy will participate in the project, doing marks, drillings and other tasks.
