Microsoft announced that IE8 is now available for download in 25 languages at its website starting from Thursday.

It claimed that IE8 can block two to four times more malware, or malicious software, than other browsers.

The new browser also cuts down on the time it takes to complete common tasks on the Web such as searching, mapping and sharing, the company said.

"With Internet Explorer 8, we are delivering a browser that gets people to the information they need, fast, and provides protection that no other browser can match," Steve Ballmer, Microsoft's chief executive officer, said in a statement.

Internet Explorer still dominates the Web browser market, though its share is being eroded by Mozilla's Firefox, Apple's Safari and other competitors.

Figures from market research company Net Applications showed that at the end of February, Internet Explorer was used by 67.5 percent of Internet users, down 7 percent from a year ago.
