The Tibet Autonomous Region is an ethnic autonomous area located in southwest China with Tibetans as the main local inhabitants. It is situated on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, which is called the "roof of the world". Tibet fascinates tourists from home and abroad with its grandiose natural scenery, vast plateau landscape, charming holy mountains and sacred lakes, numerous ancient architectures and unique folk cultures, and the wonders created by the industrious and brave people of various nationalities in Tibet in the course of building their homeland. Tibet is not only a place that many Chinese and foreigners are eager to visit, but also a "paradise" for photographers.

From June 25 to July 10, 2005, the State Council Information Office of China, China Photographers Association and the Tibet Autonomous Region Information Office jointly sponsored a large-scale photographic event---"Tibet in the Eyes of One Hundred Photographers". One hundred well-known photographers from 19 foreign countries including the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Italy, Canada, the Netherlands, and from China participated in the event. Many foreign photographers have honorary titles like MFIAP or EFIAP, and most of them came to Tibet for the first time.

These photographers visited Lhasa city and Xigaze, Shannan, Nyingchi and Nagqu prefectures. They took photographs in more than 100 places covering natural scenery, religious sites, culture and education, folk custom and folway, factories and enterprises, villages and pastures. Upon the conclusion of the event, nearly 150 000 photographs shot in Tibet by the photographers were collected. The large-scale "Tibet in the Eyes of One Hundred Photographers" Photographic Exhibition was held in Beijing. There were over 700 photographs in the exhibition, which were selected by experts from the collected photographs.

These exquisite photographs caught and shot by photographers from their own perspectives present the audience with the true situation of Tibet, which enjoys an ancient history, beauty, magic and rapid development as well as the scenery and custom unique to the snow mountains. Shown here are parts of the photographs by foreign photographers exhibited in the above-mentioned exhibition.
