With so many foreign visitors flocking to Beijing for the Summer Olympics, how are they being accommodated? Besides watching Olympic events and visiting tourist sites, can they also get to know the real life of ordinary Beijing people?

In Part I of this show, we invite several Olympic homestay families. They are candidates to become one of the 1,000 Beijing "Olympic Households" to host homestays during the Games. Although hotels and hostels around the city can meet the basic lodging needs of guests during the Olympics, homestays with "Olympic Households" would offer visitors a chance to experience life with a Beijing family and form friendly exchanges. Requirements include a separate guest room as well as facilities for personal grooming and cooking. In addition, at least one member of the host family must have conversational skills in a language other than Chinese.

In Part II of the show, we invite several families from the “Olympic Families Tour Beijing” competition. The competition was launched at the 1-year countdown of the 2008 Beijing Olympics. As winners of the “Olympic Families Tour Beijing” contest, five international families from America, Argentina, South Africa and Germany together with five Chinese families, visited Olympic venues, tourist sites, and more importantly, made friends during their tour in the Olympic cities of Beijing, Qingdao and Hong Kong.

Join us in this episode of “Up-Close”, to meet these two kinds of Olympic families and share their Olympic stories.
