Petr Čech earned a place in the UEFA EURO 2004™ All-Star Team, his excellence between the posts helping the Czech Republic to reach the semi-finals. Four years on, he has earned a reputation as one of the world's top goalkeepers after proving his worth repeatedly in both international and club football.

European champion at Under-21 level with Czech Republic in 2002; replaced Pavel Srníček as senior side's No1 and has been unchallenged since.

Four appearances, four goals conceded, at UEFA EURO 2004™; four goals conceded in three games at the 2006 FIFA World Cup.

Won 50th cap in UEFA EURO 2008™ qualifier at home to Germany (lost 1-2); captain for first time in return fixture (won 3-0).

Played for FK Chmel Blšany, AC Sparta Praha and Stade Rennais FC before recruitment by Chelsea FC in 2004, since when he has won two Premiership titles, an FA Cup and two League Cups but lost in 2007/08 UEFA Champions League final.

Fractured his skull in game against Reading FC in October 2006; obliged to wear rugby-style headguard for the rest of his career; further injuries in 2007/08.
