Poznan-born, played for local clubs before moving to Wisła Kraków midway through 1999/00 season.

First capped while at Lech Poznań in November 1998; played no part in 2002 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign but after topping Ekstraklasa scoring charts with 21 goals for Wisła, was selected for all three matches at finals in Korea Republic and voted 2002 Polish Player of the Year.

Reached 20-goal totals four years running for Wisła, winning hat-trick of league titles (2003-05) and two Polish Cups.

Scored 22 goals in Europe, including ten in ten games (five against Italian opposition) in 2002/03 UEFA Cup.

Seven goals in 2006 World Cup qualification (his first in competitive internationals) but none at finals.

Joined Celtic in 2005; 16 goals in debut season; extended winning streak of national titles to five with Scottish Premier League successes in 2006 and 2007.
