On the evening of Jan. 27, China's first peacekeeping medical team to Lebanon left Chengdu for Beirut, capital of Lebanon, on board a UN chartered flight. In Lebanon, the Chinese medical peacekeepers will set up a second-class peacekeeping hospital to fulfill the missions of providing medical treatment and emergency rescue entrusted by the UN.

The medical team is made up of 60 officers and men from the General Hospital of the Chengdu Military Area Command and the Sichuan-Tibet Military Service Station Department and so on. Among them, there are 6 MDs and 19 Masters of Medical Science. They were given only two months to complete all the training subjects before heading for Lebanon. During the closed training period, they went through the trainings of battlefield casualty treatment, basic military skills, knowledge on NBC protection, etiquettes in foreign affairs and English. As a result, their capabilities in battlefield casualty treatment, field survival, safety protection and emergency handling have been enhanced.
