ASTANA, Kazakhstan, Jan. 11 (Xinhua) -- China and Kazakhstan on Wednesday reaffirmed the important role the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) has played in promoting regional stability and development.

A joint communique signed by visiting Chinese Vice President Zeng Qinghong and Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev said the resolution and declaration adopted at its Astana summit raised the status of the SCO to a new level, which was conducive to promoting its international standing and enhancing coordination in the political, social, economic and cultural fields.

Coordination among the six member states has played an important role in strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation and promoting stability and development in the region, the joint communique said.

China and Kazakhstan attach high importance to the SCO summit due to be held in Shanghai, China, this June, the communique said,adding that the leaders will take stock of achievements and experience of the past five years and map out new strategies.

The SCO, which was established in 2001, groups Russia, China and four Central Asian states -- Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan.

On international issues, China and Kazakhstan are of the view that the international community should strengthen consultation and cooperation and join efforts to maintain the diversity of the world, it said.

UN reforms should be omnidirectional and cover different areas.The important thing is to increase the representation of the developing countries and seek a bigger say for them in the UN decision-making process, the communique said.

At the invitation of President Nazarbayev, the Chinese vice president arrived here Monday for a four-day official visit to Kazakhstan. Enditem
