On July 20, the UN Special Dispatched Group to Liberia held a ceremony to confer the International Peace Medal on 558 Chinese peacekeeping officers and men who have been carrying out peacekeeping missions in Liberia.

In his address to the ceremony, Alan Doss, special representative of the UN Secretary General to Liberia spoke highly of the outstanding performance of the Chinese peacekeeping troops and gave unstinting praise to the Chinese peacekeepers for their great contributions to Liberia's peace and national reconstruction.

The fifth batch of the Chinese peacekeeping troops to Liberia, sent out by the Beijing Military Area Command, is made up of transport, engineer and medical detachments. Since they entered the mission area in December last year, they have successfully fulfilled all kinds of peacekeeping tasks and gained wide appreciation from the UN Special Dispatched GRoup in Liberia and from personages of Liberia's various circles.
