BEIJING, March 17 (Xinhua) -- The following is a biographical sketch of Meng Jianzhu, who was approved to be state councilor at the First Session of the 11th National People's Congress on Monday:

Meng Jianzhu

Male, ethnic Han, native of Suzhou, Jiangsu Province, born in July 1947. Joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in June 1971 and began working in August 1968. Graduated from the Shanghai Mechanical Engineering Institute, majored in engineering system, with on-the-job postgraduate education, Master of Engineering, senior economist.

Member of the CPC Central Committee, state councilor, member of the Leading Party Members' Group of the State Council, minister of public security, secretary of CPC committee of the ministry, general police commissioner.

1968-1973 Sailor, dispatcher and deputy head of the engine crew of the fleet with the supply, distribution and delivery station of Qianwei farm in Shanghai. Secretary of the Communist Youth League of China (CYLC) branch of the station and vice political instructor of the station

1973-1976 Secretary of CPC branch of the transportation company of Qianwei farm in Shanghai

1976-1977 Head of the publicity division of the political department of Qianwei farm in Shanghai

1977-1986 Vice-secretary of CPC committee of Qianwei farm in Shanghai, director of its political department, head of the farm (on-the-job education at China's United Universities of Economic Management Shanghai branch majored in industrial management in 1983-1986; studied training courses of Party and administrative officials at the Shanghai Municipal Party School in 1984-1986)
