BEIJING, March 16 (Xinhua) -- The following is a biographical sketch of Cao Jianming, who was on Sunday elected procurator-general of the Supreme People's Procuratorate at the First Session of the 11th National People's Congress (NPC):

Cao Jianming

Male, born in September 1955, ethnic Han, native of Nantong of Jiangsu Province. Joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in December 1973. Started working in December 1972. Graduated from the international law major of the international law department of the East China University of Political Science and Law. Postgraduate education. Master of laws. Professor.

Member of the CPC Central Committee, procurator-general of the Supreme People's Procuratorate.

1972-1975 Worked at Qianjin Eatery under the Food and Drink Company of Jing'an District of Shanghai. Deputy Party branch secretary of the company's Xiangyang Restaurant. Deputy secretary of the company's committee of the Communist Youth League

1975-1979 Head of the political work section of the health division of the Shanghai Municipal Health Department

1979-1983 Student in the major of law at the East China University of Political Science and Law

1983-1986 Postgraduate student in the international law major of the international law department of the East China University of Political Science and Law

1986-1986 Teacher and administrator of the international law department of the East China University of Political Science and Law

1986-1995 Deputy director and director of the international law department of the East China University of Political Science and Law (visiting scholar at Ghent University, Belgium, in 1988-1989; invited to give lectures at University of San Francisco, the United States, in July-December 1990)

1995-1997 Deputy secretary of the CPC committee and executive vice president of the East China University of Political Science and Law
