Topic 2: Achievements and challenges in China`s rule of law
The CPPCC National Committee held a news conference dealing with the responsibilities of the so-called New Social Strata.
Five members of the CPPCC took part. They were Wang Jianlin, Liu Hongyu, Liu Yingxia, Xu Guanju and Fang Ming.
China's new social strata mainly refers to people who work in the country's private sector and freelance intellectuals.
In this year's CPPCC session, the number of advisors from the new social strata is bigger than ever. They have brought proposals on social responsibilities.
Xu Guanju, CPPCC Member, said, "I brought a proposal on the establishment of the system for enterprises to shoulder social responsibility. I hope the government will set up such a system to guide enterprises sound development, promoting the social harmony. "
Official statistics show China currently has a population of 50 million people who qualify as members of the "new social strata". Together, they contribute nearly one third of the national tax income and create half of the country's new employment opportunities.
They have expressed a wish to participate in political consultation and assist lower-income citizens.
Liu Yingxia, CPPCC Member, said, "As the first group of Chinese citizens who became rich, we should first shoulder social responsibility. Not only to run well a company, but also help to alleviate poverty in the country. I believe more people in our strata will do more for the social development, the goal of common riches will surely realized."
The new social strata also see contributing to social justice and harmony as their way to shoulder social responsibilities.
Liu Hongyu, CPPCC Member, said, "As you know, Beijing has a lawyer office to provide free law service for the poor immigrant workers. we have a goal to provide timely legal service for them in more than 4000 streets, districts and counties. "
No matter which sector of the New social strata these CPPCC members come from, convey one same message. As they become increasingly influential in Chinese society they want to show a greater sense of responsibility.
