Special Report:   Mainland tourists visit Taiwan

In Beijing, two agreements have been signed opening weekend cross-straits chartered flights and allowing mainland tourists to travel to Taiwan. Chen Yunlin, Chairman of the mainland-based Association for Relations across the Taiwan Straits, and Chiang Pin-kun, Chairman of Taiwan-based Straits Exchange Foundation, signed the agreements this morning at the Great Hall of the People.

Senior officials from the two associations attended the signing ceremony. After signing the agreements, the chairmen took group photos with the two delegations and celebrated with champagne. The agreements are regarded as an important breakthrough on talks between the associations. The talks were the first of the kind in 9 years.

Both sides have agreed to continue close consultations to strengthen cross-Strait exchanges and cooperation.
