There's a rich treasury of cultural wealth in museums all over China. But even with all that amazing history on display even museums have to keep up with times.

The Stele Forest Museum in Xi'an is nearly a thousand years old. It's renowned for its fine and extensive collection of inscribed stones. The museum is moving forward into the new millennium by incorporating advanced digital-imagery techniques in the hope of attracting more visitors.

The museum, built in 1090 AD, today covers an area of 30,000 square meters. The displays are primarily ancient calligraphy, historical records and stone carvings. Today's visitors find some of the old characters hard to recognize. Many fascinating stories revealed in the inscriptions are lost on visitors unable to read the texts.

Technicians at the Stele Forest are working to correct this, by animating the stele engravings.
