The Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, the country's largest lender, says it has won approval from Qatar's banking regulator to set up a branch in Doha.

ICBC says it's the first Chinese bank to open a branch in the Gulf, marking an important step in its expansion abroad. In an e-mailed statement, the bank says the Doha branch will focus on wholesale banking, while providing consulting, trust and asset management services.
