Overseas Chinese have acknowledged their full support for the "one China" principle during a meeting promoting cross-Strait trade, held in Fuzhou, in South China's Fujian Province.

Participants upheld the recent joint statement by the Taiwan Affairs Offices of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council safeguarding the unity of the motherland.

Ye Beiyang, president of Pan-Africa Assoc. for Peaceful Reunification of China, said: "We give strong backing to the 'seven-point statement' from the central government. We resolutely oppose to any "Taiwan Independence" activities, and we will do whatever we can to safeguard the unity of the motherland."

Wei Yun, vice president of Mid South-America Assoc. for Peaceful Reunification of China, said: "We also think that no matter who holds power in Taiwan region in the next four years, there are bright prospects for peace as long as they recognize that there is only one China in the world. The leaders in Taiwan region should give up taking 'Taiwan Independence' stance. Don't be the separatist condemned by history."

Wang Kebin, secretary general of Assoc. for Peaceful Reunification of China, said: "We stand firmly by the central government's statement on the Taiwan issue. We hope that the Taiwan authorities can shift their focus from 'Taiwan Independence' to recognizing the 'one China' principle. Otherwise, there's no way to maintain the cross-Straits peace and stability."
