　　I Like English

　　Hi, my name is Qiu Chen Xin. I’m from Fuzhou, Fujian Province.

　　I’m smart and I like English very much. I’m lucky that my mother is an English teacher. She began to teach me English when I was very young. I enjoy learning English because I think English language is as beautiful as music. I like to watch Disney cartoons in English, such as “Snow White and Seven Dwarfs”, “Pinocchio”, “Dumbo” and many others. My American friend Amy said they were also her favorite when she was at my age. Besides, I love watching English movies for children, like “Home Alone”, “Harry Porter” and so on. I improve my English a lot by watching English cartoons and movies, and have great fun at the same time. Outlook English also helps me a lot in my English study. I’ve been watching this program for nearly a year. Now I can use English to communicate with foreign people. Last year, I took part in an English speaking contest in Fuzhou and won the first place.

　　Worry about the Forest

　　My name is Wang Zhengyang from Chendou Liangshuijing Street Primary School. Today, I’ll express my worry about the forest.

　　A forest is a large piece of land with a lot of trees. There are many, many trees and flowers in the forest. Many beautiful animals and insects live in there. There are thousands of birds too. A forest is a noisy place!

　　Forests are serving man everywhere. Trees are most useful in preventing good and rich soil from being washed away during heavy rains. A long time ago, man in the past had no enough knowledge about science of nature. They cut down too many trees and never planted any new trees. By and by, the rich land changed into useless deserts where nothing could grow.

　　But now some people still cut down the trees to made something or sell the wood to make money. Many birds, animals and insects die. Because they have no where to live and they haven’t enough food to eat. When there are no more trees in a forest and the animals eat the grass and small plants, the forest will become a desert!

　　Here I want to tell every one: Our forests are in danger. The animals are in danger! The environments of human being are in danger! So let’s protect the trees! Let’s protect the forest! Let’s protect our earth!

　　My hometown

　　My hometown is beautiful! She is famous historical-cultural city with a history of 4,000 years. Can you guess where is it? Yes, she is Luoyang.

　　As everyone knows. The famous flower in our city is peony. In the days of 10-25 of April every year is the peony festival. I know a poem is about peony. That is Enjoy the Tree-Peony,written by LiuYuXi who is a great poet of Tang Dynasty.“Too coquettish, peonies in front garden, lotus on the pool, too solemm. Tree-peony only, the beauty of nation, moves the capital, with its blossom.”

　　The people in Luoyang is friendly and well known by local food. The place of historical interest in here are: Longmen Grottoes: White horse temple, Wangcheng park and Baiyuan Garden. Baiyuan Garden is a great poet BaiJuYi in Tang Dynasty located here.

　　Well, My dear friends, don’t you think Luoyang is a beautiful city! And Luoyang warmly welcome all of you to our hometown!

　　Good morning. I’m Jonathon. My topic today is about　Computer, My Best Friend

　　I never forget the day on May 24th 1998. It was the first time I used computer to print a birthday card to my mum. She was so surprised and asked: “Oh, a perfect present, did you do that, my dear son? Thank you!” “You should thank the computer. I just printed that.” I answered.

　　Computer became my common friend at my five years old. It’s so magical to me.

　　After we came back from Canada in 2000, I often send some messages to my foreign friends by E-mail. Computer became my better friend accordingly.

　　China lost 0:3 to Turkey in the first group match of FIFA World Cup Korea Japan last year. I was too sad and turned on computer quickly to play the FIFA games against Turkey too. I won them with higher score 10:0. Computer gave me a lot of help in relaxing myself on that day and became my best friend.

　　Computer is a very useful tool in our life, in our study as well as works. I love my best friend,the marvelous computer. It is the most great invention. No long distance exists now.

　　Good morning, ladies and gentlemen, my name is Linda, I feel it’s my pleasure to give a talk. My topic is homework. You know sometimes, I’m always thinking if we don’t have any homework to do, what will happen ? It’s really hard to imagine, you know. Maybe everyone will be crazy and happy. Maybe all the students will go traveling on weekends , or just relaxing.

　　Well, for me, it’s another story. I think I will be in a disaster. Of course it’s not a real disaster, you know, what I’m going to say is my mum will leave me a lot of things to do including homework, housework, going shopping, cooking, you know , sort of things like that. I love to do some cooking, do some cleaning, or shopping with mum, but I hate to do so much homework, I like interesting homework, like , playing games, or making up stories, you know , those things, very interesting , very vivid.

　　I really don’t like boring things, it’s too dull, It makes me sleepy, However, I love to do one thing, even it’s homework, that is English. I find that I’m crazy about English. And I love to recite English words. I feel it’s fun that I can have a big vocabulary.

　　Learning English is my first goal, after that, I will learn Japanese, French, German, and so on. I really love languages, I think later on, I will be a language expert. Believe it or not! I have the confidence.

　　This Is Me

　　Hello, everyone. My English name is Kylie. My Chinese name is Sun Tian. I am 8 years old. I am a girl. I am from Guangxi. Now I live in Nanning.

　　Do you want to know how I learn English? Two years ago I lived in Rong Xian. It’s a small town. One day, Dad said, “You have to go to learn English in another place.” I asked Dad, “Why do　I have to learn English?” Dad said, “Because English is useful.” Then I came to Nanning.

　　First I did not like Nanning, because I had no friends here. My mom and dad were not here with me. I felt very lonely. Two years later my English have become very good. I had to thank to my dad. If he hadn’t asked me to study English, I would not have spoken English so well or have read so many English stories.

　　In the future when I grow up, I like to go back to my hometown, Rong Xian to teach the children English. Then they don’t have to leave their mom and dad to go a place far away to learn English like me.

　　The Blue Sky

　　Blue is my favorite color. It is the color of the ocean. My mom said blue should also be the color of our sky, but I always say NO to her since in my 11 years of life I seldom have no experiences that the color of the sky is blue.

　　Mom said I was right but she was right, too. She said when she was young there were few factories and automobiles. Instead there are more green trees, grasses and crops surrounded by clean rivers. How wonderful it was when she was playing outside! She was running after dragonflies and butterflies, and a cat was running after her, while the birds were singing at the top of a tree and a squirrel was looking at her from the ground. The sky was blue! Really Blue! I was very jealous of her. How I hope that I could see the blue sky!

　　One night, I had a dream. I dreamed that I was lying down there on the grass. All passing buses, cars and scooters have no tail-gas. There are garden-like factories beside me. The construction sites are clean without dust. In my dream, the sky is blue. Suddenly, I become a bird flying freely in the blue sky!

　　Good morning everyone!My name is JieLidi. Today, my topic is: “Confidence”.

　　As we all know, failure is the mother of success. But What I want to say is that success is the child of confidence.

　　Without confidence, things can become negative and uncomfortable.I remember,during an English class, I wanted to make a sentence using the word "listen".I should have said: " I listen to the Voice of America" but I was too nervous and said " I listen to the Noise of America". Everybody in the class laughed. Since then I wanted to train myself to be confident.

　　Now,confidence makes me brave and courageous.Take this speech for example.I wanted to enter this competition, but I would feel very embarrassed if I made mistakes.Just then,I thought about my dream. My dream is to become a scientist when I grow up.

　　If I am not confident,how can I overcome difficulties I face?If I am not confident, how can I succeed in developing myself in the future? I will do it!

　　Today, I am making a speech in public and I feel proud and confident!

　　I am sure, in the future, with confidence, I will go forward-always forward.Confidence will make my dreams come true!

　　Help The Frogs

　　“Oh, no! We should have been friends…” the frogs said to the cooker before dying. Later, these frogs became a dinner and were served to the guests in a restaurant. “Fried frog, very delicious!” said the guests. Hearing that, other frogs who were just waiting for death in a box wept at their misfortune.

　　A little frog asked his mother,“mum, why are you weeping?”

　　“Because the cook is going to kill us for someone’s dinner, and we will be eaten!” the mother answered.

　　“Mum, do people only eat frogs?”

　　“No” mum shook her head with a sigh, “people just think we are more delicious than other food. Actually, they have thousands of kinds of food.”

　　“But we have helped people a lot. We eat insects to protect their crops. People and frogs should be friends,” the little frog told his mother.

　　Yes, people and frogs should be friends. Our friends, frogs, protect our crops and the environment, but we, people, only reward the frogs by killing and eating them.

　　What we do only for ourselves often causes great trouble to other creatures. Man is the most intelligent creature in the world, but why are we so selfish and short sighted? Can you imagine if in several years a teacher teaches the word “frog”, and the kids ask with confusion “what is a frog?” because the world has no more frogs. What a scary picture!

　　My hometown

　　When I was a child, I didn’t have any idea of my hometown. I didn’t know where it was or what it looked like. My grandpa told me that my hometown was in Nan Hai, Guangdong Province, since my ancestors were born there. However, I was also told by my father that Guangzhou was my hometown because he was born in Guangzhou and so was I. I have been wondering whom I should believe.

　　When I was 8 years old, as a member of the Guang Zhou Callan Glee Club, we traveled to five European countries on tour. At every performance, a ballad entitled “Morning Tea” always made an impression and excited the audiences. Cantonese people are fastidious about their food. For example, Cantonese Dim Sum stresses the combination of colour, fragrance and taste. Through this ballad, people got to know about a variety of local Guangzhou snack, such as Cha Shao Bao, Shao Mai, Shrimp Dumpling, etc. At the end of this ballad, we would give a comfortable belch, which made people smile and feel satisfied and relaxed. It seemed that they were drinking morning tea and tasting Dim Sum while they listen to the music. At that time, the press described us as angels who were spreading Guangzhou Culture. It was the first time that I realized I am a Cantonese.

　　When I was 10 years old, on behalf of Guangzhou teenagers, I went to Canada to take park in a summer camp, called the Children’s International Summer Village, where 48 children from 12 countries lived together at a middle school for 1 month. There was a very fun activity in which children from each country would have their own national day when they would introduce their country. On Chinese Day, our team leader and we four Cantonese children racked our brains to cook one of Canton’s snacks. Although none of us had any experience in doing it, the food we cooked was finished incredibly fast. We were surrounded with a trail of questions: “What is it?” “Is it magic?” “Could we have another taste?” We answered that it was Guangzhou-style noodles, one of the famous Cantonese snack, which represented Guangzhou culture.

　　Last summer, one of the CISV members, a 15-years-old Swedish girl came to China to visit my family and lived with us for half a month. I took her to visit my former kindergarten, my school, the Glee Club, the playground, the amusement park, and my relatives’ and my friend’s homes. We also went to Bai Yun Mountain with its amazing views, the Chen Clan Temple with its ancient sense of mystery, the Six-Banyan Temple with its long history, and the peaceful and lovely Dong Hu Park which can be seen from my bedroom window. The Guangzhou-style opera also made a deep impression on her. When she was leaving Guangzhou, she said to me with sincerity, “Emily, thanks for your hospitality. Guangzhou is a very beautiful city and I will never forget it. I can also feel that you love your hometown very much.” At that moment, I was aware that Guangzhou is my hometown.

　　When I learned that I was coming here, I really wanted to talk about Guangzhou because I feel like I am Guangzhou’s little mayor and that I should let everyone know about it and invite you all to visit.

　　I like the peaceful environment and the delicious food in Guangzhou. It is where I have lived for 12 years with my parents, my good friends, and my teachers who have supported me. I am a Cantonese who likes Guangzhou very much.

　　Now, I not only understand the meaning of hometown, but I also know for sure that Guangzhou is my hometown.

　　I love my hometown. I love Guangzhou.

　　My Sweet Home

　　Hi, everyone, my name is Jia Ruxin. I am from Shijiazhuang and in Grade 5. Today my topic is “ My Sweet Home”.

　　There is an old saying “East and west, home is best.” So, we can see how important home is to everybody. I’ve got a sweet home because it is cozy. My family lives in a flat. The sitting room is the biggest and my room is the smallest, but it is a world of my own. The wall is white, the curtain is pretty, the bed is comfortable and the bookshelf is filled with different kinds of books. In the right hand corner is the Zheng, a traditional Chinese musical instrument, and on the table is the computer. When I feel tired, I can play computer games; and when I feel depressed, playing the Zheng can cheer me up. This is my sweet home, where I can find peace and comfort.

　　I’ve got a sweet home because it is full of love. My dad loves me. He is kind and patient. It is my dad who watches Outlook English Magazine with me; it is also my dad who is ready to answer my questions. My mom loves me, too. She is considerate and hardworking. Every day when I go home from school, the rooms are always clean and tidy. Every time when I play out and forget dinnertime, it is also my mom who calls me back with her tender voice, “Come home, my little darling, dinner is ready”.

　　This Is Me

　　Hello, everyone! My name is Kerry. My Chinese name is Qu Zhi. I am eleven years old .My birthday is October 31st, which is Halloween in America，when children dress up in costumes like animals, cartoon characters, and famous people. They wear masks and walk door-to-door asking for candy. They call this trick-or-treating in the United States. It is very exciting and fun for kids.

　　I do very well in school also. My favorite subjects are Chinese and Math. I always rank among the best students with my good grades. I am very good at making friends. I like people whether or not they are good students. Because my classmates elected me as Class Monitor.I must try my best to perform very well and be a good role model for others.

　　When I’m with my family, my parents think I act quite differently than I do when I am at school. I am eleven and always have a lot of energy. Mom has to call me several times to come to dinner. If I don’t like the food we are eating, I usually stare at the dishes with an angry face and won’t even touch my chopsticks or my bowl. Sometimes I will just eat a little so my parents won’t notice and then try to escape from the dinner table. Once, Mom asked me, being completely sincere: “Why do you become another person at home once you leave school? Your teachers speak so highly of you!” After she said that, I felt really uneasy. So I have decided to be a better daughter: one who loves to study and work, and to act the same at school as at home.

　　The present from Santa Claus

　　When I was a little boy, I also believed in Santa Claus. I can remember the year when I was four years old. My parents told me: “Philip, Santa Claus will give you some nice presents on Christmas Eve. If you are a really good boy, he’ll give you just what you want.” “Really?” I said. “Will he give me a toy train?” My parents promised me.

　　You know, it was a long time for me to wait for Christmas. But finally, Christmas Eve came. I hung a stocking at the foot of my bed, and I could hardly go to sleep.

　　The next morning, I woke up very early. I eagerly looked into my stocking, but found nothing. Disappointed, I went into the sitting room. I was thrilled to see a big box under the Christmas tree. I tore off the ribbon and paper, and found the toy train I wanted so much!

　　Several years later, I learned that Santa Claus was not real,but I wasn’t too disappointed. Because I also learned that it was actually my parents who gave me the toy train. Now, at Christmas time I always remember that Christmas when I was four. And I feel very happy, because I know that I’m a good boy and my parents love me very much.

　　ovely Christelle

　　My little cousin Christelle, her Chinese name is Tian Tian. Last year, she came back from US for summer vacation. She was very proud of herself of traveling alone from San Francisco to Beijing. Christelle is such a pretty girl that everyone in the family loves her.

　　Although Christelle is only ten year old, her life is already full of unique and interesting stories. She was born in Paris, France. She moved to Montreal, Canada when she was three and a half. Then she moved to U.S.A three years ago.

　　Now Christelle is a Grade Five student in Silicon Valley, California. She doesn't have any homework during the weekends, spring breaks and summer vacations. But she loves to read on her own. She has finished already all of four Harry Potter books published so far.

　　When Christelle was in Paris and Montreal, her primary language was French. Now she can speak English very well but her French is getting more and more rusty. She doesn't know much about reading and writing in Chinese. One day she asked me: "Chinese one has one line, two has two lines, three has three lines, so the number four must have four lines? Right?" oh! Such a funny idea!

　　Christelle is always puzzled and amazed by the ways the family members call each other: "Why mother's brother is called Jiu Jiu, but father's brother is Shu Shu?;Why mother's mother is called Lao Lao, but father's mother is Nai Nai? It's so hard to remember them all!".By the way, Christelle is my cousin on my mother's side. Her father is the oldest brother of my mother.

　　Christelle is so pretty and pure, I love her .
