China´s Toy Story

  China is an important toy production and export center, almost one half of the worlds toys are made in China. Aside from the 'Made in China' tag on most play things, what else do you know about China's toys?

  In today's program, we will explore the function of toysin the lives of average Chinese people and take a look at China's toy story.


  There are almost 300 million children in China for whom 10 billion RMB is spent each year on toys. However, only 8 billion RMB is spent on toys from Chinese toy producers. The rest is spent on toys from foreign toy companies. The traditional Chinese toy industry is in serious need of development.

  With the rapid pace of city life, people realize the importance of enjoyable leisure time. As a result, toys have begun to attract adult's attention and interests. Toys are no longer just for kids.

  As kids grow up, they are easy to get bored with one same toy and they need new ones. The cost of buying new toys can quickly add up for parents. So, there is a new trend developing in China: renting toys.

  Toy design is a significant element of the toy industry. Tianjin University of Science and Technology is the first university to offer a toy design degree in China. Since 1987, more than 400 toy designers have graduated from there.


  It is said that toys as an industry is an evergreen, but as a product like shooting stars. How to make these two characteristics of the industry work together is China's toy industry as well as the world's industry.
