Ye has taught more than one thousand students over the past 10 years
Ye's house is an old and formal classroom divided into two rooms. The room in the east side is about 20 square meters and used as the children's current "classroom." Even Ye could not tell how many students have attended his class in the past 10 years. The village CPC secretary of Pucheng village, surnamed Wang, told reporters that over the past years, Ye has been devoted himself to the classes and voluntarily helped unattended children and those living in difficulties with their studying. Many students in Ye's town and even from other towns came to study in his class and Ye's home has almost become a "home for unattended children" of the village and even the town. According to his rough calculation, around 1,000 children have studied in Ye's class. When Secretary Wang was talking, a child, followed by his grandfather, hurried into the classroom. The grandfather told reporters that the child was studying in the seventh grade and the parents of the child had left home to work in Nanjing. After he started studying at the No. 3 Middle School of the town, the child found that his English was very poor, so he and his grandfather came and wanted to study English in Ye's class. They came from the town, about 15 kilometers far from Ye's village.
Ye suffers from a cataract and his ears are also not working well. Many people have persuaded him to have an operation, but he worried that if the operation is not successful, he would not be able to help these children. Secretary Wang said that although it is hard for Ye to support the "home" by himself, but he feels happy and he is in good spirits despite the fact that he is 80 years old. Over the past years, he has never stopped to have a rest. He often told other people that although he has retired from the Pucheng Middle School, it does not mean that he will stop working for the rest of this life.
