38-year-old Na Shun bought a Su He mower four years ago for five thousand yuan.

His old machine remains in his backyard, like some sort of antique.

"The new mower can save me some 50 yuan a day in diesel. And it only takes one person to operate. We used to need three persons to do the same job," says Na Shun, herdsman, Bai County, Inner Mongolia.

Today Su He's hay mowers are not only sold in Inner Mongolia, but also in the provinces of Hebei, Shanxi and Heilongjiang.

Moreover, he's tapped into the markets of the Republic of Mongolia, with a tenth of last year's orders coming from the neighboring country.

Su He says he'll continue improving his products to stay competitive.

And there's no going back to herding. Su He says to have a better life, he must change. Even if that means giving up a way of life that has existed for hundreds of years.
