Located within the South Fourth Ring Road with two subway lines nearby
Tiantan Hospital will be relocated to Huaxiang in Fengtai District within the South Fourth Ring Road, according to sources. The new site has a planned floor area of 230,000 square meters, while its current site covers just 90,000 square meters. This massive hospital relocation project is a key cooperation project between Beijing Municipal Commission of Development and Reform and Beijing Municipal Health Bureau in 2009. Relocating some first-class hospitals to Beijing’s new residential areas is an important step for Beijing to readjust and rationally distribute medical and health resources.
The larger space will create a better platform for the development of Tiantan Hospital. The difficulties of making an appointment, securing a hospital bed and scheduling operations over the past years will be alleviated.
For patients, it is very convenient to travel to the hospital’s new location as it is located right next to the South Fourth Ring Road, within the Fourth Ring Road. According to the urban construction plan, there will be two subway lines near the new hospital. “The distance between the two planned subway lines and the hospital should be less than 1 kilometer.”
Following the signing of a letter of intent for relocation, the hospital at the new site will enter the planning and construction phases. Upon completion, Tiantan Hospital will then officially move to the new site. The relocation will take place in a few years.
Fengtai District will then have renowned hospitals
As for whether Tiantan Hospital will be renamed after the relocation, some reports said that it might not change its name, as “Tiantan Hospital” is already well-known. There is a precedent of this. On September 20 last year, Beijing Ditan Hospital moved from its original site by Ditan Park to Beigao in Chaoyang District and still keeps its old name.
Tiantan Hospital’s relocation to Fengtai District is undoubtedly good news for the district’s residents. The district now only has four first-class hospitals, all of which are specialized. It still lacks large renowned general hospitals however.
