The fact that a little over ten year old child has, already comprehended in less than a year that one has to face challenges and difficulties with a smile rather than flinching cowardly has left reporters moved by her determination and perseverance.
The reporters followed Yang Qin to her roadside home, a beautiful and warmly-decorated apartment consisting of three bedrooms and a living room. Her former home collapsed during the earthquake, but thanks to loans and national aid, they were able to move into a new home right after the Spring Festival this year. Recalling the earthquake, her mother said, “on the second day after her amputation surgery, Yang Qin said to me, ‘mom, it will be fine; the uncles and aunts told me the leg will recover in a few days.’ I know she was trying to comfort me.” Her eyes were filled with tears as she spoke, but little Yang Qin who stood beside her was smiling.
Yang Qin became excited when talking about her new home, and said proudly that she had also lent a helping hand in its design. She hopes to become an architect when she grows up. She went to her room and retrieved a box of 400 paper cranes in different colors. Showing them to the reporters, she said, “I recently learned how to fold these paper cranes. Later, I will send them to the teachers and classmates who looked after me. You can choose three now.” She smiled and her little rosy face shone.
Yang Qin, just like the "little red hat” from the famous fairy tale, is kind-hearted, pretty and sensitive. Now the disaster is over, her smile has become brighter and will be cherished even more. Like a ray of sunshine it has enlightened the hearts of the people around her.
