Hanting Hotels CEO Ji Qi said "If we compare China to an ocean, then Shanghai should be like a river, and my company is like a creek. Shanghai's changes rely on China's overall development. Along with many others, we have grasped the opportunity of Shanghai's rejuvenation.”

As a successful entrepreneur, Ji Qi has been selected to be a member of the CPPCC in Shanghai. This title brings with it prestige, but also responsibility. Discussing policies, giving criticism, and putting forward proposals to the government are added parts of his job. One of his suggestions is to upgrade Shanghai's service industry. Another one is to improve the situation for those earning low wages in the city.

The employees at Ji Qi's company are well looked after. They earn good pay and work in a pleasant environment. But unfortunately, not every employee in the city enjoy the same benefits. Only blocks away from his company, migrant workers are living in harsh conditions. They have come from the countryside to earn big money in the city. But their welfare and benefits are often neglected.

Ji Qi has been keeping a close eye on the social imbalance in Shanghai. As a CPPCC member, he believes he can effectively promote improvements in society.

Ji Qi said “The function of the CPPCC members is to participate and debate politics, and carry out the democratic supervision of the government. Since all members are elite representatives from all walks of life, we should first do our jobs well. And then our proposals will reflect the real problems of the society. ”

Ji Qi is not powerful enough to make the changes alone. But along with other CPPCC members, he hopes that his efforts will help Shanghai continue to prosper.

The CPPCC has drawn an assembly of some 500,000 prominent figures from almost every important field in China. Ji Qi is just one of them. As part of the historic process, members are witnesses to China's economic growth... and the steady development of democracy and law.
