ASEM members hold closed-door consultations

    Delegates to the Asia-Europe Meeting, known as ASEM, are in China's northeastern port city of Dalian for the fifth Economic Ministers' Meeting. On day two of the three-day meeting, ASEM members have been holding consultations on a number of issues.

    Lu Fuyuan, Chinese minister of commerce, held closed-door bilateral consultations with ministerial representatives from some of the 26 member countries. This afternoon, delegates are holding closed-door meetings to discuss Asian and European economies and to seek ways to restore confidence in global economic growth. The results of their consultations will be submitted to the Asia-Europe Economic Ministers' Meeting tomorrow.

    More than 250 representatives from 26 members states have arrived in Dalian. 20 of the delegations are at ministerial level.
