Successful Operation on Polar Bear Suffering from Abdominal Hernia
WED, FEB 27, 2002
Chinese vets have successfully carried an operation early this week on a sick polar bear suffering from abdominal hernia.

The polar bear is named as "Yangyang" and comes from Beijing Zoo.

To ensure complete success and prevent recurrence, two surgeons from People's Hospital, and Professor Wan Baofan from China Agriculture University, also a specialist in anaesthetics, were specially invited to give guidance in the operation, which attracted two British friends who were willing to extend assistance.

The entire operation took five hours to complete and was fully televised to tourists.

A special group has been set up in the Beijing Zoo to take good care of the polar bear around the clock after the operation, said sources from the zoo.
