CCTV: A Magnificent 2008 Leading to a Promising 2009

Highlights in Big Events Elevates Trump News Programs

The unusual year of 2008 meets a number of bit events in China, including the snow-relief at the beginning of the year, the earthquake relief in May, the Beijing Olympic Games in August, as well as the successful launch of Shenzhou VII and the first space walk of Chinese Taikonauts in September. CCTV has gone all out for Chinese audiences by offering the most timely and authoritative information.

The news programs of CCTV such as the representatives of CCTV News Broadcast and Topics in Focus have obviously deepened their influence in 2008. Take CCTV News Broadcast for example, the newsroom established for CCTV News Broadcast in February 2008, as the first program-based newsroom of CCTV, has improved its capacity in integrating resources of news domestic and international. In pursuit of a more profound content and a more living reporting manner, CCTV News Broadcast has succeeded in arresting more public attention and enlarged the audience rating. From January to October, 2008, CCTV News Broadcast has actualized a growth of 2.8% in audience share.

In 2008, Topics in Focus has also made profound reports of the NPC and the CPPCC, the Hand-foot-mouth Disease, earthquake-relief, commercial bribes, the plastic bag ban, etc. Topics in Focus enjoys an international as well as domestic reputation. The program Strict Regulations against Money Laundering initiated in 2008 has drawn great attention from high positions of FATF (Financial Action Task Force) and furthered the international understanding of China.

In the 鈥淔ifth National TV Audience Spot Check鈥 organized by the National Bureau of Statistics, CCTV News Broadcast is rated as the most favored program among the 1000 programs mentioned by the surveyed audience, while Topics in Focus is merely next to CCTV News Broadcast.
