Overseas Chinese discuss business in Wuhan

In Wuhan, capital of central China's Hubei province ... where the 2005 Conference on Overseas Chinese Pioneering and Development in China -- has gotten underway. High on the agenda is to help ease the search for new business opportunities in the region.
About 400 overseas businesspeople and specialists from 11 countries and regions, as well as 1,400 representatives from across China are seeking business opportunities in various fields. Sectors involved include the IT industry, optical electronics, bio-medics, high-tech agriculture, automobiles, environmental protection, education and financial investment. In addition to negotiations on special projects, the 1st-ever "Wuhan Forum" was added to this year's conference to help boost development in Wuhan and Hub ei Province. The chairman of the Shimao Group, Xu Rongmao, has invested 8 billion yuan, or about one billion US dollars in a real estate project in the Yangtzi River area. He's also attending the conference to search for more project investment opportunities.
Chairman of Shimao Group Hui Wing Mau said, "Wuhan's strength in water resources and river landscapes attracted us here. And we are trying to find more potential projects and further the investment strength in Wuhan and Hubei."
5 successive conferences provide a platform for overseas Chinese to develop in the booming Chinese market.
Director of Overseas Chinese Affairs Office, State Council Chen Yujie said, "The overseas conference has already become a famous brand not only at home, but also among overseas Chinese worldwide. Many of them pay their own expenses to come here to look for business opportunities."
Experts and representatives of transnational companies will discuss possible cooperation projects in the next two days.
More than 600 overseas Chinese have set up 400 high-tech enterprises in Hubei province since the first conference was held in Wuhan 4 years ago. Many of these enterprises have stimulated the growth of economy in Hubei. The conference is attracting more and more overseas Chinese to participate in the fast growing Chinese economy.
