An investigation into a train crash that killed five people and injured dozens more in Northeast China on Sunday claims the accident was caused by a signal failure. A passenger train traveling from Xi'an to Changchun collided with a cargo train travelling from Changchun to Dalian, and five carriages were derailed.
China's Ministry of Railways said a cable box had been stolen on the part of the railway line where the accident occurred, causing signal equipment to fail. Stewards on the train were unaware of the situation and did not stop the train. The accident caused the cancellation of traffic on the Changchun-Dalian line on Sunday evening, but the railway resumed normal operation on Monday afternoon.
