For men who believe they are going through the proverbial midlife crisis, some doctors say you may actually be experiencing andropause, a male version of menopause.
Andropause is becoming more widely recognized and accepted by physicians for the changes many middle-aged men experience - from depression and loss of libido to sexual dysfunction. In other words, you experience hot flashes, sleep problems, mood changes, changes in the body as well as heart and bone complaints.
But ultimately, it is the drop in hormones (estrogen in the female, testosterone in the male) that is the main cause of the problems.
Although with age, a decline in testosterone levels will occur in virtually all men, there is no way of predicting who will experience andropausal symptoms of sufficient severity to seek medical help. Neither is it predictable at what age symptoms will occur in a particular individual. Each man's symptoms may also be different.
Traditional Chinese Medicine has an effective way of dealing with andropause.
