| Peking Opera staged in HK to celebrate the National Day |

A Peking opera was staged in the Hong Kong Cultural Center in the evening on Sept.23rd to celebrate the 53rd anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
The opera "Silang (the fourth son) Visiting His Mother", one of the most popular repertory pieces on the Beijing operatic stage, was presented by the Hong Kong communities of Jiangsu and Zhejiang provinces and Shanghai.
Chief Executive of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) Tung Chee Hwa and Director of the Liaison Office of the Central People's Government in Hong Kong Gao Siren were among those who attended the opening ceremony of the opera.
W. P. Tam, deputy director of the Office of the Government of the HKSAR in Beijing, said in a magazine that Hong Kong hopes to introduce to international friends the 200 year-old cultural heritage of Peking Opera in the highest standard.
