On the eve of the one-year anniversary of the September 11 attacks, United States President George W. Bush has issued a statement encouraging world leaders to continue their support of the war on terror, and calling on Americans to be unafraid.
US President addresses anniversary of Sept.11 attacks Bush appeared to set aside any discussion of Iraq and highlighted America's moral calling in the pre-recorded address. He thanked countries around the world for their support of the US in its war against terrorism.
US President,George W.Bush said,"My country will always remember the outpouring of friendship and support from nations around the world in the wake of September 11. On behalf of all Americans, I thank the millions of people from every nation who share our grief over the loss of innocent life, and who share our resolve to lift the dark cloud of terror from our world."
President Bush said September the 11th was not the beginning of global terror, but the beginning of the world's concerted response. In his words, against the terrorists, there is no immunity, and there can be no neutrality. In the current stage of their campaign, the coalition is not opposing a nation, but a network. He urged Americans to go forward confident, determined, and unafraid. Bush said, together, they will face the peril of the moment, and seize the promise of the times.
White House spokesman Ari Fleischer has said Bush will wait for Thursday's UN speech to discuss Iraq, in an address expected to seek international support to remove Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.
On Wednesday, in commemoration of the hijacked aircraft attacks, Bush will visit the Pentagon, the World Trade Center in New York, and a field in Shanksville, Pennsylvania. These are where the four hijacked planes crashed, resulting in the deaths of about 3000 people.
