| Premier Confident of Prospects of HK, Macao |

"We have full confidence in the future of Hong Kong and Macao," said Premier Zhu Rongji, when he delivered the Report on the Work of the Government at the annual session of the National People's Congress （NPC） Tuesday.
"We should fully implement the principle of 'one country, two systems' and the basic laws of Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions," he said, "It is our firm and unswerving objective to maintain the long－term stability, prosperity and development there."
He said that the central government will continue to render full support to the efforts of the governments and chief executives of Hong Kong and Macao to govern the regions in accordance with the law, and it will further strengthen economic, trade, scientific, technological, cultural and educational exchanges and cooperation between the mainland on the one side and Hong Kong and Macao on the other side.
