On July 13, the Discovery Space Shuttle launch was delayed due to mechanical failure. Although the specific cause was not known, NASA has to spend $616,000 due to the delay. The malfunction was maybe a small one but the failure in any of them could result in a disaster. NASA says technicians are currently trying to determine the cause of the problem, but won’t be able to come up with the answer in a short time. They said the launch could be postponed until the end of the month. We could easily learn that there was full of gloomy emotion on the face of the NASA spokesman.
When I was a student, I also hope to have a holiday everyday. But I hope to go to school during the holiday, because I couldn’t see my dear classmates.
Don’t worry! I think you’d better have a good conversation with your friend.
Oh, how unlucky I am!
Oh, how unlucky I am!
我们还可以说take a gloomy view of 对...
Why me?
I give up.
No.3 Jay Zhou: A Google search turns up 1,550,000 news items concerning Jay Zhou , indicating his great popularity. But recently, due to a love triangle, attention on Jay has focused on matters unrelated to music. This is undoubtedly not the kind of attention Jay wants. That is his first gloomy reason. The second one is about his first movie. He has kept a low profile, and hoped to distract attention from the scandal through the premiere of his movie “Initial D”, but his maiden work received a big thumbs-down from the critics. However, “Initial D” has still done well in bootleg sales, which is perhaps some consolation to Jay.
No.2 David Beckham: A Google search turns up 950,000 sites mentioning Beckham. However, a quick look at these shows that many have nothing to do with soccer. Although Beckham is famous, once he got to Real Madrid ,he has won no championships, and in Spain has been constantly beset with scandal. His advertising income has increased every year, but due his bad luck on the soccer field and good luck in love and commerce, it seems only a matter of time before he changes occupations and goes into the performing arts. But if were to make this change, would he still capture as much attention as he does now?
No.1 Michael Schumacher: A Google search turns up 497,000 pages of information on Schumacher. Though this is less than that of the above-mentioned public figures, there is almost no scandal or negative news. It seems Schumacher is not only famous, but he’s also an upstanding human being. But this season, for various reasons he has not done well in the competitions. He barely managed take one championship in a big US race, but only because there were only 6 cars in the race, a big loss of face for Schumacher. Due to safety problems with Michelin tires, 7 of their sponsored cars withdrew from the American contest at the last minute, robbing Schumacher of his satisfaction in the winner’s circle.
NASA successfully launched space shuttle Discovery on July 26, 2005after a 2-1/2 year struggle to rebuild the shuttle program following the fatal Columbia disaster.
The shuttle, carrying seven crew members, soared into slightly hazy skies, leaving behind a trail of smoke and flames, while the roar of its booster rockets rattled windows and shook the ground across Cape Canaveral in Florida.
Officials said the flight would not be successful until after Discovery's 12-day mission and landing.
Almost 2,500 guests of NASA, including first Lady Laura Bush and Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, witnessed the shuttle lift off about 5 km away from the launch pad.
let’s learn some hot words first.
1、The first one is the easiest one---discovery,是发现,探索的意思, 这次发射升空的就是Discovery 它是发现号的名字,不过注意要字头大写
2、the second one is launch,也就是在火箭,飞船发射的意思。
3、NASA
National Aeronautics and Space Administration
美国国家航空和宇宙航行局 大家不用记住全称,只记住NASA是美国宇航局就行了 we often meet this words in some movies like Independence Day…
