Commemorating the birth of Rock and Roll,
London holds an “Elvis impersonator” contest.
July 5th, 2004 marks the 50th anniversary
of the birth of Rock 'n' Roll,
the day that Elvis Presley appeared on the scene
and revolutionized pop music.
27 years after his death,
the music and memory of
the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll is still being kept alive
by the thousands of Elvis Tribute Artists.
Recently 50 Elvis impersonators
from all over the world converged in London.
Each of them had their own strong points.
Some had Elvis’ distinctive crooked smile,
some had his trademark sideburns,
some were wearing his style of leather clothing,
but all met with cheers of approval from the onlookers.

For the fourth straight year,
rail-thin, 26-year-old Takeru Kobayashi
of Japan swept over his competition
at the Hotdog-eating Competition ,
gulping down 53-and-one-half hot dog in 12 minutes,
and shattering his own world record by three dogs.
He ate an average of one hot dog
every 13 seconds, using his trademark method
of snapping the dogs in half before swallowing them.
Takeru weighs just 132 pounds,
but he sure can pack away those hot dogs.

He keeps in shape by walking
3.7 miles every day,
and sticking to a healthy diet.
Rabinowitz, who turned 100 in February,
