Electoral campaigning in Afghanistan has intensified over the past week as candidates are rallying supporters ahead of the upcoming election.

On Sunday, three of the presidential candidates took part in a televised debate. They discussed issues ranging from achieving peace and stability to improving the status of women.

Incumbent president Hamid Karzai discussed national issues alongside Ashraf Ghani and Ramazan Bashardost.

Ghani is a former finance minister and Bashardost a parliamentarian and former planning minister.

The three voiced their views.

Hamid Karzai, Incumbent president, said, "America and NATO have agreed that peace is crucial. This will not be achieved through fighting but via negotiations among Afghans. Therefore I call for a grand council in which all Afghans participate, and the Taliban and Hisbe Islami."
