Solana made the comments on Tuesday after meeting Kosovo's Prime Minister Hashim Thaci and President Fatmir Sejdiu.

He says Kosovo needs to control its borders and issue travel documents that meet EU security requirements. The senior EU official pledged support for the new country.

Javier Solana, U foreign policy chief, said, "The countries who have met the requirements they have been granted, will be granted in two days and others will have to wait until they meet the requirements. But, it's not a process that stops, it's a process that adapts to the capacity that member states can do and meet the requirements that are necessary, which as I said are of a technical nature."
