Ousted Honduran President, Manuel Zelaya, has arrived in El Salvador after a failed attempt to land in Honduras. While in El Salvador, Zelaya will consult with the presidents of Argentina, Paraguay, and Ecuador along with the secretary-general of the Organization of American States.

The plane carrying Zelaya circled above the main Honduras airport earlier Sunday, unable to land as the runway was blocked by soldiers with military vehicles.

Afterwards, protesters clashed with troops outside the airport, leaving two people dead, including a teenage girl.

Zelaya then briefly stopped in Nicaragua before continuing on to El Salvador.

In San Salvador, Zelaya directed his words to the military and police of Honduras, asking them to "not repress the Honduran people any longer". He vowed to try another return to Honduras on Monday or Tuesday.

Argentine President Cristina Fernandez is calling on all sides in Honduras to restrain themselves and avoid the escalation of domestic chaos.

The Honduran interim government led by Roberto Micheletti has voiced its willingness to have talks with the OAS over the crisis.

He made the statement shortly after accusing the Nicaraguan forces of gathering in the border region between the two countries.

In response, the Nicaraguan authorities denied the accusations.

Zelaya was driven away from his presidential palace in late June. Hundreds of armed troops forced him to board a plane to Costa Rica. The military coup came as Zelaya sought constitutional reform.
