Total cases of A/H1N1 in Chinese mainland reach 960

The Chinese mainland has confirmed another 45 people have been infected with the A/H1N1 flu bringing the total number of cases to 960. Of these, 660 people have made a recovery.

Meanwhile, Friday saw Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao presiding over a State Council meeting. He canvassed experiences of preventing the spread of the virus.

The meeting said the prevention and control of the epidemic should focus on public areas, such as schools and hospitals. The entry-exit departments should adjust and perfect inspection and quarantine work. It urged the health department to enhance vaccine research and production. And traditional Chinese medicine should play an important role.

Beijing municipal health authorities have confirmed 22 pupils in a local primary school have been infected with the A/H1N1 virus. This was triggered by a cleaner who worked for a family of a school student. The cleaner had also worked for an unnamed American couple before working for the student's family.
