Play VideoRescue continues for landslide victims
A large helicopter has joined rescue efforts and will help carry equipment and personnel at the landslide site in Chongqing. It was scheduled to arrive early on Monday but was delayed by bad weather.
Rescuers believe the arrival of the helicopter will greatly assist the rescue operation. Meanwhile, hundreds of technicians and rescuers continued their search for survivors on Tuesday.
This is the Mi-26 the biggest military helicopter in China. This, and helicopters like it have played a vital role in major rescue operations, such as last year's earthquake relief.
Last week's landslide in Chongqing created a similar situation to the Sichuan earthquake. The ground is shaky and any false move could cause more collapses. Constant heavy rain has created a barrier lake. Heavy equipment has been transported to area, but huge rocks on the roads blocked their access to the much needed locations. The arrival of the helicopter is a morale boost for the rescuers.
