China's top legislator visits Italy

China's top legislator, Wu Bangguo, is in Italy for an official visit, the final leg of his three-nation European tour. Wu Bangguo's trip highlights the importance China gives to cooperation with Europe in addressing global challenges.

Wu Bangguo started his tour of Italy in Milan.

Upon his arrival, he stressed China's willingness to keep the momentum of cooperation with Italy, in a bid to spur the recovery of the global economy.

Besides Milan, the Chinese top legislator is set to visit Rome, Florence and Venice.

Wu Bangguo is scheduled to hold talks with Italian President Giorgio Napolitano and prime minister Silvio Berlusconi, as well as heads of both houses of the Italian parliament.

Wu is also set to visit a research and development center of the Italian National Agency for New Technology, Energy and the environment.

Wu Bangguo arrived in Italy from Austria, where he also expressed interest in upgrading high-tech cooperation.

He visited the auto company, Porsche, on the outskirts of Salzburg, for an update on hybrid power as well as the development of new-energy cars.

China has become the world's largest market for cars.

The top legislator extended a welcome to well-known auto companies to establish research and development centers in China and strengthen technological cooperation in key auto parts.
