"World Insight" - The programme & the people

"World Insight" is the flagship current affairs programme on China Central Television (CCTV-9), airing every weekend in more than 120 countries. In each edition, our producers, editors and reporters bring viewers the Chinese perspective on the stories that count ― focusing on news content that have made the headlines over the past seven days.

With 30 minutes of interviews, commentary and analysis, it not only gives the latest update on the major international stories, but looks forward to the direction in which they are likely to develop. In addition, our global audience uses this programme as a benchmark to gauge the Chinese Government's position on a number of issues.

The "World Insight" team is made up of an experienced group of reporters who have graduated from elite universities in China and overseas. Our Senior Producer is Shen Xiaomeng and the programme is fronted each week from our Beijing studios by CCTV-9 news anchor, James Chau, who studied at the University of Cambridge.

Some of the major news "World Insight" has covered in the past include the Iraq war, the Middle East peace process, UN reforms, as well as concerns much closer to home such as the Korean Peninsula nuclear crisis, relations between Taiwan and the Chinese Mainland and Beijing's build-up of military hardware.

Our team have also reported exclusively on a number of health stories ― led by China's fight against HIV/AIDS and avian influenza ― and is dedicated to timely and accurate coverage of SARS, the first major disease of the 21st century.
