Baseball is played by two nine-man teams棒球是以9人为一方，在室外场地使用bat球棒和ball球进行的一项球类运动。实际上一个队可以有20名队员，但只能有9名队员上场。其余算作是替补队员。The object of players on the batting team is to advance from home plate around the bases, in order, returning home.这既是业余竞技运动也是一项职业运动项目，比赛的目标是赢得比对方更多的分。当一名运动员跑完全部垒位，并未被判出局，即得一分。The team scoring the most runs wins.那么根据这些得分规则，在棒球这项运动中，对球员个人的基本技术要求就包括：击、投、守、准确传球、跑垒和偷垒。除此之外，还需要球员具有速度和力量，平衡与协调，柔韧与灵活等项素质。而且作为一项集体项目，一名队员与全队的配合能力也是重要的，别看规则不太复杂，然而您看技术要求还不少呢吧。

外场The outfield shall be the area between two foul lines formed by extending two sides of the square也就是两条场地线的延长线。外场也要相应分为三个部分，这里是right field,这是center field，这边是left field。而与场地名称相对应的防守位置名字就是pitcher投手，catcher手，first baseman一垒手，second baseman二垒手，third baseman三垒手，short stop游击手，left field左外场员，center field中外场员，right field右外场员。The infield and outfield, including the boundary lines, are fair territory and all other area is foul territory. Fair territory就是有效区，也就是内场，外场，包括边界线都是fair territory,而其余地方就是foul territory无效区。而如果batter击球手击出的一球既在有效区的范围内，又使自己能够轻松跑完各垒回到本垒。 那么这个球就叫做本垒打。 通常我们在棒球比赛中看到球飞出场外直接奔了观众席的球就是本垒打了。
棒球的球棒一般为3英尺6英寸长，也就是1.668米。它一般是由 metal金属制造，而且一般会采用aluminum 铝制，有时候也会用wood木头来制造球棒。 The bat's maximum diameter球棒的最大直径，也就是in its biggest part它最粗的部分，直径是7 cm. The bat's maximum length 它的长度是106 cm. 那么垒球的球棒呢？
再来说说这个球，可别看它个头小，仔细分析起来还真挺复杂的呢。The ball is formed by a core of cork, two covers of rubber, three covers of woolen and cotton yarns and all of it covered with two stripes of white horsehide stitched together with a red yarn.
我们拿一个棒球来看，从外表看，圆球的表层是用horsehide covering马皮包裹的， 最里面的部分叫做the core of cork, 然后是rubber橡胶层, woolen yarn棉毛层。最后在horsehide covering外面以seams缝合线缝合，这么复杂的结构是不是有点像地理课上的地壳分析图呢
棒球比赛要打9局，也就是nine innings. 而在每一局中，每一队都可以 gets three outs有三次出局的机会。如果9局之后还是不能分出胜负，那就需要Extra innings来break a tie打破平局的局面。
