When Tiger Woods heads into Sunday with the lead in a major championship you can pretty much just engrave his name on the trophy.

However, this weekend, the unthinkable happened. Tiger lost to a relative unknown as Yang Yong-Eun overtook Tiger to win the PGA Championship at Hazeltine.

Yang became the first South Korean to win a golfing major, and it's hoped his success will help breed a new generation of golfing champions in Asia.

South Korean Yang Yong-Eun kept world number one Tiger Woods at bay before registering a stunning win in the PGA Championship on the weekend.

Tuesday's front page of Straits Times, the daily newspaper in Singapore, tells the story loud and clear - that South Korea is proud of its first ever major winner in golf.

Asian Tour chairman Kyi Hla Han believes Yang's triumph couldn't have come at a better time for Asia.

Kyi Hla Han, Asian Tour chairman, said, "Its an inspiration to a lot of our young players who are right now, who are already winning Asian Tour events before they are 23 years old. So you know I think the next three to five years we are going to see some fantastic players coming out of Asia".

Yang's journey from an Asian Tour player to a major winner is one which many players would ideally want to follow.
