At the beach volleyball World Championships...the last 32 taking to the sand at the Norwegian resort of Stavager. Brazil once again showing their class.
Under hot conditions, the Swiss pairing of Simone Kuhn and Nadine Zumkehr took on the Chinese duo of Chen Xue and Xi Zhang, and it was the women from China who took the match in straight sets 22-20, 21-15.
A much noisier crowd was in place for the match between home country favourites Kathrine Maaseide and Janne Kongshavn as they took on the Dutch pairing of Marleen van Iersel and Sanne Keizer. But, it was the two from Holland who progressed, taking it in two sets 26-24, 21-18.
There was further heartbreak for the Norwegian fans as Brazilians Maria Clara and Carol disposed of the pairing of Nila Ann Hakedal and Ingrid Torlen in a tough three setter - the Brazilians taking it 16-21, 21-16, 15-7.
In the men's side of the draw Russians Igor Kolodinsky and Dmitri Barsouk took on Brazilians Marcio and Fabio Luiz, and it was the Brazilian pair, who have earned the nickname of the "sand sambas" who took it, winning 21-16, 21-14.
