In a tight first half, it was the home side who eventually took the lead. Luciano Figueroa was taken down by an awkward challenge from goalkeeper Pablo Migliore, resulting in a penalty for the hosts. Playmaker Juan Roman Riquelme duly stepped up to the spot and coolly slotted home to give Boca a 1-0 lead.

But the Boca faithful were given little chance to celebrate. Five minutes later, midfielder Franco Sosa deftly headed a corner ball home to level the score at 1-all. While after the break, the hosts managed to force their way in front once more. Riquelme struck again 15 minutes into the second half to give Boca the victory - the seventh in their last eight matches.
