The 25-year-old hurdler, who won the 110m hurdles at the 2004 Athens Games, travelled to the US earlier, where doctors advised him to go ahead with the operation.

After several months of discussion among experts, the medical scheme for Liu Xiang's foot injury has finally been confirmed and Liu will have surgery at the end of the year in the United States.
