In badminton, Chen Jin of China defeated Boonsak Polsana of Thailand in straight games, while China's Xie Xingfang comfortably beat her compatriot Zhu Lin. Both reached their respective finals at the BWF Hong Kong Open on Saturday.

Xie Xingfang shot into a seven point lead at 14-7 in the opening game after a Zhu forehand sailed wide. Xie would win that first game at 21-13.

Zhu Lin offered some resistance early in the second game and even led briefly at 7-5, before Xie cut the lead by one.Zhu would only win two more points, as Xie ran away with the rest of the match to win 21-13, 21-9.
