France's football coach Raymond Domenech can let out a sigh of relief now. He won't be sharing the same fate as Italy's former coach who got sacked just a few days ago.

The French Football Federation have announced that Domenech will continue coaching France. Domenech attended a meeting at the federation's headquarters in Paris on Thursday, and as expected, the failure of "Les Bleus" at Euro 2008 under his leadership was top of the agenda.

There had been calls for France's 1998 World Cup-winning captain Didier Deschamps to take over after Domenech's ageing team were eliminated in the group stages in Austria and Switzerland. The 2006 World Cup finalists also suffered a humiliating four-one defeat at the hands of the Netherlands in their brief appearance at Euro 2008.

FFF president Jean-Pierre Escalettes chaired the meeting, where France's recent dismal performances came under review. Opinion had been divided with a number of former internationals, including Zinedine Zidane, insisting France's 1998 World Cup winning captain Didier Deschamps should take over.

But the FFF have decided to keep the faith in Domenech, announcing on their official website that he will stay on as the French coach for their 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign.
