BUENOS AIRES, June 15 (Xinhua) -- The Paraguayan soccer team as host defeated Brazil 2-0 on Sunday to become the single leader of the South American qualifiers for the World Cup South Africa 2010.

Roque Santa Cruz scored the first goal at the 25th minute and Salvador Cabanas made the second at the 48th. These goals raised Paraguay's tally to 13 points while Brazil have eight points.

Paraguay began the match with three forwards while Brazil used four defenders and three midfielders.

Paraguay were close to making a third goal at the 56th minute but Santa Cruz's shot was off line.

The match took place in the "Defensores del Chaco" Stadium in Asuncion, Paraguay, watched by 35,000 spectators.

Paraguay played with 10 players after Dario Veron was expelled at the 47th minute.

The Paraguayan team coached by the Argentine Gerardo Martin has four victories and one tie. On Wednesday they will play against Bolivia in La Paz.

Brazil will face Argentina in Belo Horizonte, Brazil.
